Acceptable Solution to be Amended

Pursuant to sections 24(1), 29(5)(b), and 30(1)(b) of the Building Act 2004 (“Act”), I give notice of urgent amendments to C/AS2 (issued 27 June 2019), for Building Code clauses C1–C6 Protection from Fire.

The amendments correct:

  • the description of storage activities for risk group “WB” (Business, commercial and low level storage) in Table 1.1;
  • the minimum fire safety systems required for risk group “CA” (Public access and educational facilities) for buildings with an occupant load between 251 and 1000 and escape height between 4 and 10 metres, listed in Table 2.2b; and
  • the minimum fire safety systems required for risk groups “WB” for buildings with an occupant load between 100 and 1000 and escape height between 0 and 4 metres, listed in Table 2.2c.

These were unintentional errors that affected the required performance settings and were likely to result in additional costs to construction.

The amended C/AS2 Acceptable Solution with errata came into force on 31 October 2019.

The Acceptable Solution can be downloaded free of charge from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) website: www.building.govt.nz/building-code-compliance.

In accordance with section 30(2) of the Act, the chief executive of MBIE has publically consulted on these amendments, and now publicly notifies the confirmation of the amendments to this Acceptable Solution.

Dated at Wellington this 19th day of May 2020.

JOHN SNEYD, General Manager, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
