In accordance with section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of Land Transport (Driver Licensing) (COVID-19 Temporary Extension of Deemed Licences) Amendment Rule 2020 (“Rule”).

The objective of the Rule is to allow overseas visitors who are in New Zealand to drive in New Zealand on their overseas licences for a temporary extended period.

The Rule comes into force on 18 December 2020.

The Rule is also available for inspection free of charge, and can be purchased, at the National Office of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, 50 Victoria Street, Wellington, at its regional offices, or by emailing rules@nzta.govt.nz.
