Decision on Lyttelton Carparking: Proposal to Exercise Section 71 of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016 to Amend the Christchurch District Plan to Remove the On-site Parking Requirements for the Lyttelton Commercial Zone (“Proposal”)

Pursuant to section 69 of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016 (“GCR Act”), the Associate Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration has approved the Proposal to amend the Christchurch District Plan as it applies to the Lyttelton Commercial Banks Peninsula Zone, (an area generally bounded by or adjacent to London Street, Norwich Quay, Oxford Street and Canterbury Street, Lyttelton, Christchurch) by exercising section 71 of the GCR Act to make the necessary amendment to the Christchurch District Plan:

  • Rule Minimum and maximum number and dimensions of car parking spaces required, in Chapter 7 – Transport, to remove the minimum on-site parking requirements for developments in the Commercial Banks Peninsula Zone in Lyttelton, where that development does not contain more than two residential units. For activities that include more than two residential units, the minimum parking standards would not apply to the first two units.

The exercise of the section 71 power takes effect on 18 December 2019.
