Establishment of a Designated Character School—Manutuke School (2602)
Pursuant to section 154A(1)(a) of the Education Act 1989, I hereby designate Manutuke School (2602) as a designated character school from 28 January 2020.
The different character of Manutuke School will be as follows:
“Manutuke School aims to foster a culture of success where children understand their self-worth and uniqueness, through the stories and histories of Rongowhakaata. The philosophy of Manutuke School is that it builds resilient children who know who they are, can walk in all worlds and are confident in themselves. The school will operate all practices within the context of the Manutuke Model. This model has three key aspects:
The Manutuke philosophy and principles: “Kia Papatu o waewae ki te whenua, kia Puketapu to tu, kia Manawaru te hua o au mahi. May your feet be grounded in the land, may you stand humble and strong, and may your actions bring delight to your people”.
The Framework: Uses the three maunga in the Manutuke area as foundational concepts for educational achievement and development: Puketapu (Adaptability), Papatu (Resilience), and Manawaru (Innovation).
The method by which the Framework is delivered is The Powhiri Inquiry model. The Powhiri Inquiry Model is about moving from a space of the unknown into the known by encountering the subject matter using all aspects and stages of the powhiri, as the framework and process.”
Under section 156AA(3A) of the Act I name The Manutuke Trust as having a special affiliation with the school/responsibility for the different character of the school.
The constitution of the Manutuke School Board of Trustees will not be changed by this notice and it will remain a standard constitution under section 94 of the Education Act 1989.
Dated at Wellington this 19th day of November 2019.
Hon CHRIS HIPKINS, Minister of Education.
