Acceptable Solution to be Amended

Pursuant to sections 24(1) and 29(5)(b) of the Building Act 2004 (“Act”), I give notice of urgent amendments to C/AS2 (issued 27 June 2019), for Building Code clauses C1–C6 Protection from Fire.

The amendments correct:

  • the description of storage activities for risk group “WB” (Business, commercial and low level storage) in Table 1.1;
  • the minimum fire safety systems required for risk group “CA” (Public access and educational facilities) for buildings with an occupant load between 251 and 1000 and escape height between 4 and 10 metres, listed in Table 2.2b; and
  • the minimum fire safety systems required for risk groups “WB” for buildings with an occupant load between 100 and 1000 and escape height between 0 and 4 metres, listed in Table 2.2c.

The transition period where the previous editions of the Acceptable Solution are still applicable ends 31 October 2019. The amended C/AS2 Acceptable Solution with errata comes into force on 31 October 2019.

The Acceptable Solution can be downloaded free of charge from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (“MBIE”) website: www.building.govt.nz/building-code-compliance.

In accordance with section 30(2) of the Act, the chief executive of MBIE will consult on and publicly notify a subsequent decision on whether to amend, replace or revoke this Acceptable Solution within six months of the date of this notice.
