Pursuant to section 7(5) of the Inquiries Act 2013, and as the appointing Minister for the Inquiry, the Minister of Internal Affairs amends the notice titled the Establishment of the Government Inquiry into the Appointment Process for a Deputy Commissioner of Police, published in the New Zealand Gazette, 24 July 2018, Notice No. 2018-go3641 accordingly:

  • Paragraph 3 of the Background section is removed and replaced with:

“A victim advocate has publicly raised concerns about the appointment. Her concerns relate to statements the appointee allegedly made to Operation Austin police investigators about three police officers who were facing sexual violation allegations and were subsequently charged with rape”.

  • The name of the person appointed as member of the Inquiry is: Mary Scholtens QC.
  • The Inquiry will commence on: Monday 20 August 2018.
