Intention to Amend the Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings: Technical Guidelines for Engineering Assessments
Pursuant to section 409(2) of the Building Act 2004 (“Act”), this notice provides public notification of eight proposed corrections to the Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings: Technical Guidelines for Engineering Assessments, July 2017, Version 1 (“Engineering Assessment Guidelines”). The Engineering Assessment Guidelines are incorporated by reference into the Earthquake-prone Building Methodology set under section 133AV of the Act and give technical methods for engineering assessments of buildings under the Act’s earthquake-prone building regime.
The Engineering Assessment Guidelines are expected to be reviewed regularly to ensure they remain current and up-to-date with engineering building science. A working group commissioned by the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (“MBIE”) to review Section C5 (Concrete Buildings) within the Engineering Assessment Guidelines has identified some incorrect equations and symbol definitions. Eight corrections have been proposed to amend Section C5 (Concrete Buildings). Amendments may be proposed to other parts of Section C5 once the wider review of the section is completed.
The proposed corrections are available on the MBIE and EQ-Assess websites:
EQ-Assess: http://www.eq-assess.org.nz/C5-corrections/.
A printed copy may be requested by emailing EPBconsultation@mbie.govt.nz with your name and email or postal address.
The proposed corrections are also available for inspection at MBIE’s national office, 15 Stout Street, Wellington, between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Submissions on the proposed corrections will open on 29 January 2018 and the deadline for submissions is 5.00pm on 26 February 2018. Comments can be made the following ways:
