Land Transport Rules

In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to amend 15 Land Transport Rules, and advises that the Land Transport Rule: Regulatory Stewardship (Omnibus) Amendment [2018] (“Omnibus Rule”) is available for public comment.

The Omnibus Rule proposes about 80 discrete changes across 15 Land Transport Rules. These changes would—

  • clarify and update provisions to enhance understanding and enforcement, and keep the regulatory system up to date with current practices and technology;
  • amend requirements to remove unnecessary compliance costs, without reducing safety; and
  • correct errors in cross-references, descriptions, and prescribed specifications.

A copy of the Land Transport Rule: Regulatory Stewardship (Omnibus) Amendment [2018] and information about the amendment proposals is available by calling the NZ Transport Agency Contact Centre on Freephone 0800 699 000 or on the website at:

https://www.nzta.govt.nz/omnibus-2018.

The consultation material is also available for viewing at the NZ Transport Agency’s offices. Groups and individuals who have registered an interest in the Rules to be amended have been advised of the availability of the consultation document.

Submissions close at 5.00pm on Friday 24 August 2018.

For further information about the Rules process, contact the Rules Team, NZ Transport Agency, Private Bag 6995, Wellington 6141, or email: rules@nzta.govt.nz.

Dated at Wellington this 20th day of June 2018.
