In accordance with section 17 of the Freedom Camping Act 2011, the Deputy Director-General Operations, acting under delegation from the Director-General of the Department of Conservation, hereby gives notice that freedom camping will be restricted or prohibited by freedom camping notices covering certain conservation land managed by the Department. Freedom Camping Notices define (by text and map) the conservation land where freedom camping is restricted or prohibited, and what restrictions and prohibitions apply on each site. Where they apply, restrictions are specified on the notice relating to each site. Restrictions may include matters such as duration of stay, season of use and/or hours of use.

The freedom camping notices are held at the Department’s National Office and are available for inspection electronically at offices of the Department. The notices are also available for inspection on the Department's internet site, www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/freedom-camping. Copies of the notices may be obtained through the offices of the Department on payment of a reasonable amount to cover costs of reproducing the notices.

This summary is in addition to the summary published in the New Zealand Gazette, 24 November 2016, Issue No. 108, Notice No. 2016-go6668. The updated freedom camping notices will come into force on 1 December, 2017.

Dated at Wellington this 24th day of November 2017.
