Pursuant to the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017, the NZ Transport Agency hereby advises that an emergency speed limit has been set.

1. Title—This notice is the NZ Transport Agency State Highway 1 (Kaikoura) Emergency Speed Limit.

2. Commencement—This speed limit comes into force comes into force on and from 15 December 2017.

3. Expiry—This speed limit expires on 15 December 2018 unless revoked prior to 15 December 2018.

4. Purpose—The purpose of this speed limit is to:
1. manage speeds on sections of State Highway 1, between the Clarence River and the Conway River, in order to minimise the risk of death and serious injury following the reopening of State Highway 1; and
2. allow time for the development and consultation on permeant speed limits on State Highway 1 between the Clarence River and the Conway River.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the bylaw, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This speed limit, which comes into force on and from the 15 December 2017, and takes precedence over the NZ Transport Agency (Speed Limits on State Highways) Bylaw 2010/10.

The Schedule of Speed Limits sets the speed limits on the sections of State highway listed.

The notice fulfils the requirements of section 7.2(6)(b) of the Land Transport Rule Setting of Speed Limits 2017.
