Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is hereby given of the making of the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices Amendment 2017 (“Rule”).

The Rule amends the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices 2004 to:

• insert a definition of “electric vehicle”;
• amend the definitions of “bus lane” and “transit lane” to refer to amended definitions, in the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, that include references to electric vehicles using those lanes; and
• update Schedules 1 and 2 to include signs and road markings for electric vehicle charging stations and road markings related to electric vehicles’ use of special vehicle lanes.

The Rule comes into force on 1 September 2017.

The Rule is available for inspection, free of charge, at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, 50 Victoria Street, Wellington, and at the NZ Transport Agency’s regional offices.
