Pursuant to sections 47(3) and 395(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period from 3 March 2017 to 8 May 2017, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 19.63 – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Survey requirements – Completion of surveys and alternative survey arrangements.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.25(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – General crewing and other requirements – Duty of crew to hold certificates and to be able to demonstrate ancillary proficiencies – Specific certificate or endorsement or higher grade of certificate or endorsement.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.43(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Unlimited area – Requirements to carry navigational and engine room watchkeepers, and a cook holding qualifications and demonstrating ancillary proficiencies.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2)(b)(i) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Ships other than ships to which subparts C and D apply – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Seafarers on board hold minimum requirement certificates and prescribed endorsements.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(4)(a), Table 10 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Passenger endorsement – Crewing for Passenger ships – Inshore water limits.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 32.173(a) – Seafarer Certification – Approval of sea service – Provision for period of sea service served.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.13(4), Appendix 1, 1.2 and 1.4 – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – A ship that is engaged in towing operations must be a decked ship and meet the intact stability requirements of Appendix 1 – Heeling test and tugs.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.60(a) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Towing gear design requirements.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.83, Appendix 6, Table 5 – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Anchors and cables – Anchors and chain cables for barges.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 46.5(3)(a) – Surveys, Certification and Maintenance – Surveys of new passenger ships – Renewal survey inspection requirements.
  • 1 from Marine Protection Rule 122.4(2) – Marine Protection Products – Oil – Oil filtering equipment – Approval of oil filtering equipment by Director and ensure oil content when discharged not exceed 15 parts per million.
  • 1 from Marine Protection Rule 122.7 – Marine Protection Products – Oil – Oil residue (sludge) tanks – Sludge tanks.
