Pursuant to sections 47(3) and 395(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting, during the period from 22 November 2016 to 21 December 2016, of the following exemptions:

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 19.62(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Operating Requirements – Maritime transport operator responsible for safe ships – Valid Certificate of Survey issued under Rule 44.41.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.25(1) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – General crewing and other requirements – Duty of crew to hold certificates and to be able to demonstrate ancillary proficiencies – Specific certificate or endorsement or higher grade of certificate or endorsement.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(a) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements – Prescribed endorsements or ancillary proficiencies as required by a Minimum Safe Crewing Document.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.42(c) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Minimum watchkeeping and special crewing requirements – Ships operating within coastal and offshore limits.
  • 4 from Maritime Rule 31.43(1)(a)–(b), Tables 2 and 3 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – SOLAS and STCW ships – Unlimited area – Requirements for ships operating in unlimited areas to carry at least navigational and engine room watchkeepers as specified in Tables 2 and 3.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40A.56(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Passenger ships which are not SOLAS ships – Life-saving appliances – Owner and master of a ship must ensure life-saving appliances are provided in accordance with requirements of Appendix 4.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40C.75(3) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Non-passenger ships that are not SOLAS ships – Bilge system requirements on a barge that carries less than 12 persons on board during a voyage.

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.37(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Owner and master of any ship must ensure that life-saving appliances are provided in accordance with the requirements of Appendix 1.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.64(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Fire appliances – Owner and master of any ship must ensure that fire appliances are provided in accordance with the requirements of Appendix 2.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40D.68(1) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Fishing ships – Radiocommunications equipment – Owner and master of ship must ensure radiocommunications equipment provided in accordance with the requirements of Appendix 3.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40G.5(1)(a) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Novel ships – Owner must ensure safety case contains relevant particulars set out in Appendix 1 for the design, construction, equipment and operation of the ship.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 40G.6(2)(b) – Design, Construction and Equipment – Novel ships – Issuance of initial certificate of fitness if ship’s design has been approved by surveyor or classification society.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 46.17(1)(a) – Surveys, Certification and Maintenance – Ships which do not proceed beyond restricted limits, fishing ships, and ships of less than 45 metres in length – Hull and external fittings inspections below the waterline with the ship out of the water at intervals not exceeding two years.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 50.9(1) – Medical Stores – Ships operating in the unlimited area – Medical stores – Scale 4.
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 73.4(1) – Logbooks – Requirement to carry a New Zealand official logbook on board the ship in the form specified.
  • 1 from Marine Protection Rule 122.4(1)–(2) – Marine Protection Products – Oil – Oil filtering equipment – Applies to ships of 400 gross tonnage or more, approval by the Director, and designed to ensure any oily mixture, which is discharged into the sea after passing through the system, has an oil content not exceeding 15 parts per million.
