Notice of Intention to Take Land for Road Widening—109 Kapiti Road, Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast District
Notice is hereby given that Kāpiti Coast District Council (“Council”), under the provisions of section 23 of the Public Works Act 1981, proposes to take the land described in the Schedule to this notice (“land”).
The land is required for road widening purposes. It is intended to use the land for the legalisation and construction of an off-road shared path (cycleway and walkway). The objectives of the Council that make it essential to take the land are to provide a safe and efficient roading network for all road users including pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic as part of works associated with the connection between the Kapiti Expressway (State Highway 1) interchange and the local road network.
Part of the existing footpath is already located on the land, so this existing use will be legalised, and the land will also be used to provide an off-road shared path on the south side of Kapiti Road, to be used by pedestrians and cyclists. The improvements intended to be made on the land will improve traffic efficiency and safety for all road users, pedestrians and cyclists and will upgrade the landscape and street scape. There are no suitable alternative sites, routes or other methods of achieving these objectives.
The owner of the land and those persons with a registered interest in it have been served with notice of the Council’s intention to take the land and advised of their right to object.
Any other person having the right to object may send a written objection to the Registrar, Environment Court, 5th Floor, District Court Building, 49 Ballance Street, Wellington 6011, or by post to PO Box 5027, Wellington 6145, within 20 working days after the date of publication of this notice.
If any objection is made in accordance with this notice, a public hearing will be held with the right of the objector to appear and be heard personally, unless the objector otherwise requires, and each objector will be informed of the time and place of the hearing.
Any person requiring further information in respect of this advice should contact Sean Mallon at Kāpiti Coast District Council. Postal Address: Private Bag 60601, Paraparaumu 5254. Telephone: (04) 296 4690. Email: sean.mallon@kapiticoast.govt.nz.
