On 7 May 2015, the Associate Minister of Local Government gave notice, pursuant to section 258I of the Local Government Act 2002, that the next triennial general election for members of the Kaipara District Council (scheduled for 17 October 2015) would be postponed.

The Associate Minister of Local Government now gives notice, pursuant to section 258I(3)(b) of the Local Government Act 2002, that a triennial general election for members of the Kaipara District Council is called, to be held on 8 October 2016.
