Under section 61(3) of the Government Roading Powers Act 1989 and section 22AD of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency is proposing to create an Auckland Electric Vehicles Trial Bylaw.

The proposed bylaw is intended to facilitate ease of access to, and the effectiveness of, electric vehicles travelling in specific priority bypass lanes for the period 6–20 March 2017, after which the bylaw will be revoked.
