Notice of New and Altered Geographic Names for Te Kawerau ā Maki Treaty of Waitangi Settlement 2015

Pursuant to sections 57 and 58 of the Te Kawerau ā Maki Claims Settlement Act 2015 (“Settlement Act 2015”), the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (“Board”) hereby gives notice of three new and 14 altered geographic names.

Schedule 1 below specifies the details of the three new geographic names, their geographic feature types, and their descriptions.

Schedule 2 below specifies the details of the 14 altered geographic names, their geographic feature types, their descriptions, and their former names and status.

The official geographic names took effect on 11 November 2015, being the settlement date specified in the Settlement Act 2015.

Pursuant to section 59 of the Settlement Act 2015, the Board may in the future agree to alter any official geographic name, as listed in Schedules 1 and 2 below, with the consent of the trustees of the Te Kawerau Iwi Settlement Trust.

Karangahape Peninsula Peninsula A peninsula extending south into Manukau Harbour, near its entrance, approximately 2.7km long and less than 1km wide. Extending from Kakamatua Inlet north-east to Mill Bay, and down to Puponga Point and Lady Bell Point at its southern extreme. Cornwallis locality and McLachlan Memorial are located on the peninsula. Te Ihu-a-Mataoho Beach Beach A stretch of beach within Manukau Harbour, around 1km north-west of Auckland International Airport, extending south-east from the end of Renton Road for approximately 1.2km. NZTopo50-BB31 559037 to NZTopo50-BB32 568030. Assigning a new name to an unnamed feature.
Te Onekiritea Point Point A coastal point at the north-western reaches of Waitemata Harbour between Tahingamanu Bay and Catalina Bay, on the eastern shores of the locality of Hobsonville. NZTopo50-BA31 494264. Assigning a new name to an unnamed feature (locally known as Bomb Point).
