Pursuant to Regulation 29(5) of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1977, I, Chai Chuah, Director-General of Health, hereby declare that the electronic prescribing system described in Schedule 1 is an approved system for the purposes of Regulation 29(1)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1977.

Schedule 1

An electronic prescribing system that is an approved system for the purposes of Regulation 29(1)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1977 is one that:

  • has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health as being compliant with the accreditation requirements for connection to the New Zealand Electronic Prescription Service (NZePS); and
  • produces and sends electronic prescriptions to the NZePS; and
  • produces prescriptions that contain unique identifiers that are able to be accepted by the NZePS; and
  • generates a printed paper prescription that contains a barcode that carries the same unique identifier as its electronic counterpart.
