Pursuant to sections 146 and 155 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.

N o t i c e

1. This notice may be cited as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Horouta Wānanga at Kāiti, Gisborne, establishment.

2. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

3. I hereby establish in Kāiti, Gisborne, a Year 1–13 composite school called Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Horouta Wānanga and designate the school as a Kura Kaupapa Māori.

4. The school will operate in accordance with Te Aho Matua.

The whānau of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Horouta Wānanga commit totally to the guiding principles outlined in Te Aho Matua that:

• the paramount purpose of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Horouta Wānanga is to meet the needs of tamariki and their learning;
• all tamariki enjoy an education that respects their Tino Rangatiratanga, dignity, rights and individuality;
• the whānau undertake to educate their tamariki through te reo Māori total immersion as a medium of instruction;
• tamariki develop sensitivity and respect for others; and
• this education challenges them to reach their full potential in the pursuit of excellence.

5. The constitution of the Board of Trustees of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Horouta Wānanga shall be as specified in section 94 of the Education Act 1989.
