Pursuant to section 47(3) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, the Director of Maritime New Zealand hereby notifies the granting of the following exemptions:

  • 17 from Maritime Rule 19.3 – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Maritime Transport Operator Plan and maritime transport operator safety system – Requirement to hold Maritime Transport Operator Certificate
  • 17 from Maritime Rule 19.41 – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Maritime Transport Operator Plan and maritime transport operator safety system – Maritime Transport Operator Plan and all its requirements
  • 17 from Maritime Rule 19.42(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Maritime Transport Operator Plan and maritime transport operator safety system – Maritime transport operator must develop and document a maritime transport operator safety system in the Maritime Transport Operator Plan
  • 17 from Maritime Rule 19.43(1) – Maritime Transport Operator – Certification and Responsibilities – Maritime Transport Operator Plan and maritime transport operator safety system – Survey plan – Maritime transport operator must ensure that a survey plan is developed and applied

  • 2 from Maritime Rule 31.84(2) – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Ships other than ships to which subparts C and D apply – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Owner and master of ship must not operate ship unless minimum crew on board including seafarers holding certificates as required by a Minimum Safe Crewing Document, and seafarers holding minimum requirements and minimum number of crew on board as specified in applicable tables and accompanying flow-charts
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 31.84(3), Table 11 – Crewing and Watchkeeping – Ships other than ships to which subparts C and D apply – Minimum crewing requirements for other ships – Owner and master of a ship that carries more than 12 passengers must not operate the ship unless the master has a passenger endorsement issued under Part 32 – Table 11 – Crewing for passenger ships – Enclosed water limits – Less than 24 metres, Master, SRL with passenger endorsement

  • 1 from Maritime Rule 46.24(1) – Surveys, Certification and Maintenance – Barges – Certification of barges
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 46.24(3) – Surveys, Certification and Maintenance – Ships which do not proceed beyond restricted limits, fishing ships, and ships of less than 45 metres in length that are not required to comply with section 1 – Barges – Certification of barges – Owner of a barge must not operate that barge unless the barge has a valid New Zealand Barge Safety Certificate
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 47.8(2)(a) – Load Lines – Section 1 – Ships of 24 metres or more in length – Owner’s and master’s obligations – Owner and master must comply with and ensure compliance with this Section and the provisions of Articles 2, 3, 7, 10 to 15, Annex I and Annex II of the Load Line Convention
  • 1 from Maritime Rule 47.8(2)(b)(i) – Load Lines – Section 1 – Ships of 24 metres or more in length – Owner’s and master’s obligations – Ships not proceed on voyage unless surveyed, maintained and marked in accordance with this section and Load Line Convention
