Pursuant to section 62(1)(a) of the Ngati Apa ki te Ra To, Ngati Kuia, and Rangitane o Wairau Claims Settlement Act 2014, the Minister of Conservation hereby notifies that the area described in the Schedule hereto has been declared to be subject to an overlay classification known as Whenua Rahui by section 53 of the Act.
The provisions which relate to the Whenua Rahui are sections 53-71.
Pursuant to section 62(1)(b) of the Act, the Minister hereby notifies that the following protection principles are directed at the Minister of Conservation avoiding harm to, or the diminishing of the Ngati Kuia values related to Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi):
(a) Protection of wahi tapu, indigenous flora and fauna and the wider environment within the Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi);
(b) recognition of the mana, kaitiakitanga and tikanga of the Ngati Kuia Iwi within the Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi);
(c) respect for Ngati Kuia Iwi tikanga and kawa within Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi);
(d) encouragement of the respect for the association of Ngati Kuia Iwi with Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi);
(e) accurate portrayal of the association of Ngati Kuia Iwi with Titi Island Nature Reserve and Chetwode Island Nature Reserve (Nga Motutapu Titi);
(f) recognition of the relationship of Ngati Kuia Iwi with the wahi tapu and wahi whakahirahira; and
(g) recognition of and respect for Ngati Kuia's statutory role as kaitiaki.
