Pursuant to section 65(1)(a) of the Ngati Koata, Ngati Rarua, Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, and Te Atiawa o Te Waka-a-Maui Claims Settlement Act 2014 ("the Act"), the Minister of Conservation hereby notifies that the area described in the Schedule hereto has been declared to be subject to an overlay classification known as Te Korowai Mana by section 56 of the Act.
The provisions of the Act which relate to Te Korowai Mana are sections 56-74.
Pursuant to section 65(1)(b) of the Act, the Minister hereby notifies that the following protection principles are directed at the Minister of Conservation avoiding harm to, or the diminishing of, Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu values related to the Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve:
(a) Protection of wahi tapu, indigenous flora and fauna and the wider environment of Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
(b) recognition of the Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu mana, kaitiakitanga and tikanga within Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
(c) respect for Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu tikanga and kaitiakitanga within Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
(d) encouragement of respect for the association of Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu with Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
(e) accurate portrayal of the separate and distinct association and kaitiakitanga relationship of Ngati Tama ki Te Tau Ihu with Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
(f) recognition of the relationship of Ngati Tama ki
Te Tau Ihu with the wahi tapu and wahi whakahirahira; and
(g) recognition of the interest of Ngati Tama ki
Te Tau Ihu in actively protecting species within
Te Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve.
