Notice is hereby given, under section 9(2) of the Historic Places Act 1993 ("the Act"), of the declaration by the
New Zealand Historic Places Trust that the following site is an archaeological site as defined by section 2 of the Act:
The wreck site of the SS Ventnor located at 35ø38'155?S, 173ø13'589?E, south-west of the Hokianga Harbour
The wreck of the SS Ventnor lies south-west of the mouth of the Hokianga Harbour approximately
8 nautical miles out to sea. Coordinates 35ø38'155?S, 173ø13'589?E identify the centre of the wreck with the declaration area of the archaeological site covering a 500m circle around that point. The SS Ventnor has been recorded in the NZAA Site Recording Scheme as site record number O05/350.
