Summary of Notices of Conservation Land Where Freedom Camping is Prohibited or Restricted
In accordance with section 17 of the Freedom Camping Act 2011, the Acting Deputy Director-General Conservation Services, acting under delegation from the Director-General of the Department of Conservation, hereby gives notice that freedom camping will be restricted or prohibited by freedom camping notices covering certain conservation land managed by the department.
Freedom Camping Notices define (by text and map) the conservation land where freedom camping is restricted or prohibited, and what restrictions and prohibitions apply on each site.
Where they apply, restrictions are specified on the notice relating to each site.
Restrictions may include matters such as duration of stay, season of use and/or hours of use.
The freedom camping notices are held at the department’s National Office and are available for inspection at offices of the department electronically.
The notices are also available for inspection on the department’s website at
www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/freedom-camping/
Copies of the notices may be obtained through the offices of the department on payment of a reasonable amount to cover costs of reproducing the notices.

The updated freedom camping notices will come into force on 15 December 2014.
