Approval of Manukau Urban Maori Authority as Sponsor of Te Kura Maori o Waatea Establishment Notice

Pursuant to section 158B of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. I hereby approve Manukau Urban Maori Authority to be a sponsor of a partnership school kura hourua.
2. The name of the sponsor's school is Te Kura Maori o Waatea.
3. The sponsor's school will be located in the Mangere.
4. Te Kura Maori o Waatea will be a co-educational contributing primary school.
5. Education at Te Kura Maori o Waatea may be given for Years 1-8.
6. The establishment of Te Kura Maori o Waatea is to be phased in over five years. For the 2015 year, the school will enrol students in Years 1-2. From the 2019 year,
Te Kura Maori o Waatea will enrol students in Years
1-8. None of the class levels at Te Kura Maori
o Waatea will be single-sex.
7. Te Kura Maori o Waatea will operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives:
- To provide an education that is grounded in kaupapa Maori principles.
- To provide an education within a bilingual setting in support of the revitalisation of te reo Maori.
- To incorporate Waldorf education practices where they align with kaupapa Maori principles and add to the educational outcomes and achievements of the kura.
- To provide a kura where children are highly valued and educated in an inclusive environment with the collaborative support and effort from parents, whanau, staff and community.
- To nurture and encourage every child to have developed a lifelong love of learning that is essential for acquiring the skills and content knowledge necessary to succeed at higher education.
8. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
