Approval of The Pacific Peoples Advancement Trust as Sponsor of Pacific Advance Senior School Establishment Notice

Pursuant to section 158B of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. I hereby approve The Pacific Peoples Advancement Trust to be a sponsor of a partnership school kura hourua.
2. The name of the sponsor's school is Pacific Advance Senior School.
3. The sponsor's school will be located in South Auckland.
4. Pacific Advance Senior School will be a co-educational secondary school.
5. Education at Pacific Advance Senior School may be given for Years 11-13.
6. The establishment of Pacific Advance Senior School is to be phased in over three years. For the 2015 year, the school will enrol students in Year 11. From the 2017 year, Pacific Advance Senior School will enrol students in Years 11-13+. None of the class levels at Pacific Advance Senior School will be single-sex.
7. Pacific Advance Senior School will operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives:
- Enriched, vibrant, dynamic and successful Pasifika youth. Secure and confident in their education pathway, identities, languages and cultures.
- To be a vibrant and thriving school community, centred on the Pasifika culture, enrolling 250 largely Pasifika students from low-decile communities in Auckland.
- Have a proven record of wrapping education within an innovative, cultural perspective to successfully engage students, retain them at school, enable them to achieve in education and see them progress to higher education and meaningful careers.
- Be regarded as delivering high-quality education programmes (NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3) aligned to the New Zealand curriculum.
- Be successfully rooted within the Auckland Pasifika community, with strong support from parents/fanau, politicians and community groups to achieving top educational and life outcomes for its students.
8. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
