Pursuant to section 94 of the Health Act 1956, the Minister of Health gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Title-This notice is the Health (Quarantine Inspection Places) Notice 2014.
2. Commencement-This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. Interpretation-In this notice, a reference to:
(a) a bearing is a reference to a true bearing; and
(b) a mile is a reference to a nautical mile.
4. Places of inspection-For the purposes of the Health Act 1956, the harbour areas described below are declared to be places of inspection to which ships liable to quarantine must be taken while awaiting inspection by the Medical Officer of Health or Health Protection Officer.
(a) Auckland Harbour, Motuihe Channel
Within the area bounded by straight lines from the west point of Browns Island 008ø to the shore of Rangitoto Island; then 083ø to Emu Point, Motutapu Island; then 139ø to the shore of Motuihe Island; then 232ø to Musick Point; then to the south point of Browns Island; then, by high water mark, the shortest distance to the point of commencement.
(b) Auckland Waitemata Harbour
In the navigable areas contained between a line drawn from the light on Orakei Wharf (occulting red every 6 seconds), 355ø to North Head and a line drawn 035ø from the head of Wynard Wharf to
the light known as Bayswater light beacon (flashing red every 3 seconds). Anchorage number 10 is at position 36ø42.0'S 174ø54.0'E.
(c) Bluff Harbour
In the open roadstead within the navigable area enclosed by a circle having a radius of 3 miles from the flagstaff on Stirling Point, or in any other position indicated by the Southland Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions.
(d) Gisborne Harbour
In the anchorage position as marked on chart NZ5571 approximately 2 miles north of Young Nicks Head.
(e) Lyttelton Harbour
In a position 2.4 miles north-east by north from Godley Head at 52ø 33.0 minutes south and 172ø 50.0 minutes east.
(f) Napier Harbour
In a position with Westshore Light bearing 266ø 5.35 miles.
(g) Nelson Harbour
In a position with Boulder Bank Old Light House bearing 158ø 2.05 miles.
(h) Oamaru Harbour
In a position 2 miles distant from South Head light structure indicated by the intersection of South Head light structure 253ø and the head of the Breakwater 263ø.
(i) Opua, Bay of Islands Harbour
In the navigable area off Russell, Bay of Islands, lying between Tapeka Point 090ø and the southern extremity of Kororareka Point 090ø and eastward of the dredged channel leading beacons.
(j) Otago Harbour
In a position with Taiaroa Head lighthouse bearing 160ø 3.2 miles or in any other position indicated
by the Otago Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions.
(k) Picton Harbour
The area west of Mabel Island, taken from the western-most point: in a direction of 225ø to
the foreshore; in a direction of 347ø for a distance
of 2.65 cables (0265 miles); then in a direction of 220.5ø to the foreshore in Shakespeare Bay
(as shown on charts NZ 6153 and NZ 6154) and applies to vessels of up to 120m in length.
(l) Port Taranaki
In the open roadstead within the navigable area enclosed within the arc of a circle having a radius of 2 miles from the light tower on Mikotahi, or in such other position as may be indicated by the Taranaki Harbour authorities.
(m) Taharoa Harbour
At the loading buoy at Taharoa in a position 38ø17.0'S, 174ø50.0'E.
(n) Tauranga Harbour
In a position 075ø 3.25 miles from the Mount Maunganui main light (flashing every 15 seconds), that is in a position 37ø36.8'S, 176ø14.3'E.
(o) Timaru Harbour
In a position with the Timaru Harbour Eastern Extension Light (flashing red every 5 seconds) bearing 300ø 2.4 miles or in any other position indicated by the Timaru Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions.
(p) Wanganui Harbour
In the open roadstead at a position with the signal station 031ø in 18.3m of water at M.L.W.S., or any other position within a radius of 3 miles of the flagstaff indicated by the Wanganui Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions and vessel size (unable to accept vessels longer then 80m and with a draught of more than 4.5m).
(q) Wellington Harbour
That area of the harbour contained within a circle of radius 0.2 miles having as its centre a point bearing 347ø 0.56 miles from Point Jerningham Lighthouse or any other position within Wellington Harbour indicated by the Wellington Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions.
(r) Whangarei Harbour
In the area marked "Anchorage Area A", 1.5 miles south of Bream Head (as marked on chart NZ 5214) or in any other position indicated by the Whangarei Harbour authorities on any occasion having regard to weather conditions.
4. Revocation-The Health (Quarantine Inspection Places) Notice 2005 (SR 2005/328)* is revoked.
