ESTATE OF LAURENCE SHEFFIELD (late of Auckland, retired Minister of Religion)

Application for Approval of Variation Under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957
This is to give notice that on 19 June 2014, The New Zealand Guardian Trust Company Limited, as executor of the will of the late Laurence Sheffield, will ask the
High Court at Auckland for an order, under section 32 of
the Charitable Trusts Act 1957, varying the trusts created by clause 4 of the last will of Laurence Sheffield, deceased,
by replacing the words "when their respective fathers are engaged as clergymen" with the words "when their mother or father is a member of the clergy".
The last will of the deceased left his remaining estate on trust to assist the education of girls at the Diocesan School for Girls, Auckland, but this is restricted to girls whose father is an Anglican clergyman. At the time the will was signed, the Anglican Church in New Zealand did not permit the ordination of women. The proposed variation is intended to give effect to the intention of the deceased, while taking account of the fact that there are now a number of women who have been ordained as ministers in the Anglican Church.
Any person who wishes to oppose the variation must give seven days' notice, in writing, of the intention to do so to:
(a) the Registrar of the High Court at Auckland; and
(b) The New Zealand Guardian Trust Company Limited, care of the offices of Greg Kelly Law,
PO Box 25243, Wellington 6146 (Attention: Chris Kelly); and
(c) the Attorney-General, Crown Law Office, PO Box 2858, Wellington 6140.
To make an appointment to view the proposed variation
of the will, please telephone (04) 498 8506 or email chris.kelly@trustlaw.co.nz
