Notification of Proposed Maritime and Marine Protection Rules

In accordance with section 446(a) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, Maritime New Zealand, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make the following maritime and marine protection rules:

Omnibus Maritime and Marine Protection Rules IMO-related Amendments 2015

The amendments propose changes to the following Maritime Rules:

Parts 21, 23, 24B, 24C, 24D, 40B, 40F, 41, 42A, 46, 47, 51 and 53.

The amendments propose changes to the following Marine Protection Rules:

Parts 101A, 101B, 121A, 123A, 141 and 142A.

The purpose of the amendments is to ensure that the Maritime and Marine Protection Rules reflect changes to conventions to which New Zealand is a party adopted via the tacit acceptance procedure.

The relevant conventions are the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC).

Comments are invited on the above proposed maritime and marine protection rules developed under the Maritime Transport Act 1994.
