Pursuant to section 158B of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice.
1. I hereby approve He Puna Marama Charitable Trust to be a sponsor of a partnership school kura hourua.
2. The name of the sponsor's school is Te Kura Hourua
O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa.
3. The sponsor's school will be located in the Whangarei Central Business District.
4. Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa will be a co-educational composite school.
5. Education at Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa may be given for Years 7-13.
6. The establishment of Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa is to be phased in over four years. For the 2014 year, the school will enrol students in Years
9-13. From the 2017 year, Te Kura Hourua
O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa will enrol students in Years 7-13. None of the class levels at Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa will be single sex.
7. Te Kura Hourua O Whangarei Terenga Paraoa will operate with the following aims, purposes and objectives:
- Kaupapa Maori philosophy that validates Maori culture and a Maori world view;
- innovative, akonga-centred education that provides progressive pedagogy, a constructivist approach and personalised learning;
- collaborative partnerships with whanau, local schools and tertiary institutions; and
- evidence-based development - through evidence, either Kaupapa Maori or mainstream research
and/or data, develop the kura to be a responsive,
21st century learning organisation for akonga, that has at its heart a Maori whakaaro.
8. This notice shall come into force the day after its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
