Alternative Constitution for the Board of Trustees of Tai Wananga (632)

Pursuant to section 105A of the Education Act 1989
("the Act"), I approve the following constitution for the board of trustees of Tai Wananga
Tai Wananga Board of Trustees will be made up of the following members:
- Up to three trustees appointed by the Minister of Education;
- up to two trustees appointed by the Council of
Te Wananga o Aotearoa;
- two parent representatives;
- the Principal / Tumuaki; and
- up to two trustees co-opted by the board.
The constitution will operate as if sections 96, 97, 99, 101, 102, 104 and 105 of the Act apply where relevant. The appointment of a trustee may be for a term not exceeding three years.
Except as set out in this constitution, all provisions of the Act, and any Regulations made under it, regarding eligibility, casual vacancies, appointments, terms of office and elections apply to the Board.
This notice takes effect on the day of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

Explanatory Note
This explanatory note is not part of the notice, but it is intended to indicate its general effect.
- Parents, whanau, staff, students, community and stakeholders at each Tai Wananga site will be represented through a Site Advisory Support Group. Each Site Advisory Support Group will be supported by the Tai Wananga Board through a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that all stakeholders are valued, heard and incorporate the unique focus of each location which comprises part of the Tai Wananga model.
- The alternative constitution is designed to seek desired skill sets to underpin all appointments to the board, including those elected by parents. A generic position description and skills matrix will be recommended for board membership to support parents when they are nominating and voting the two parent representatives.
