Notice of Amendment to Qualification Prescribed by the Medical Council of New Zealand

Pursuant to section 12 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the following notice is given.
1. This notice amends the Medical Council of New Zealand’s notice "Scopes of Practice and Prescribed Qualifications for the Practice of Medicine in New Zealand", published in the Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 3 February 2012, No. 12, page 283, by adding to the prescribed qualification for the Locum tenens scope of practice, the following new requirement:
"(3) have had, in the 12 months preceding the application for registration, at least 6 months’ practice under the jurisdiction of another medical regulatory authority, and provide evidence of satisfactory participation in any recertification programmes required by that authority during that period of practice or, where no recertification requirements have been set by that authority, provide separate evidence of ongoing professional development during that period of practice."
2. This notice comes into effect on 14 January 2013.
Explanatory Note
On 11 December 2012, the Medical Council of New Zealand approved a change to the prescribed qualification for registration in the Locum tenens scope of practice.
