Local Government Official Information-Independent Maori Statutory Board, Auckland

Pursuant to Section 33 of the Local Government
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
In May 2011, The Honourable Judith Collins, MP, requested that the Auckland Council provide
"the names and addresses of all members of the Auckland Council Maori Advisory Board" noting that "[t]he street address is not required, only the town and district."
The request was transferred from the Auckland Council
to the Independent Maori Statutory Board ("board") in July 2011.
The board provided information to Ms Collins in September 2011 but Ms Collins was not satisfied that the information provided answered her question in full in that it did not provide the towns and districts of two board members.
The information provided the two board members’ tribal boundaries within which their residences are located.
Ms Collins asked the Chief Ombudsman to investigate.
The Chief Ombudsman has investigated and her recommendation was provided to the board on 18 June 2012.
The Chief Ombudsman has recommended that the town and districts within which the two board members reside ought to be provided to Ms Collins.
This recommendation required the board to make a decision by 16 July 2012.
On 9 July 2012, the board resolved to disagree with the recommendation received from the Ombudsman sent to
the board in a letter dated the 18th day of June 2012, and further that the board supports the Treaty rights of the two members to confine their response to their whakapapa and tribal boundary. Dated at Auckland this 19th day of July 2012.
B. HUDSON, Chief Executive Officer.
