Notice of Intention to Approve the New Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Forest Operations

Notice is hereby given that the Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Labour, has asked the Minister of Labour to approve the revocation of the:
1994 Approved Code of Practice for Forest Operations - Safety Code - Part 5: Timber Stacking, Packeting, and Transportation.
1998 Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Tree Work - Part 3 - River and Stream Operations.
1999 Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Forest Operations.
2001 Approved Code of Practice for Helicopter Logging.
These will be replaced by the Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Forest Operations 2012, pursuant to section 20(1)(a) of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
The Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Forest Operations sets out a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for the health and safety of those working within the forestry industry.
The code applies to all places of work where employers and employees use forestry practices in the course of their duties.
There have been a number of amendments proposed to correct data and reflect advances in safe forestry practice.
Those changes have been both consulted on with industry experts and made public for feedback.
The Minister for Labour has approved this new Approved Code of Practice for Safety and Health in Forest Operations.
