Under the Reserves Act 1977, the Conservator for the East Coast Bay of Plenty Conservancy of the Department of Conservation grants representatives of Ngaiterangi, Nga Potiki, Ngati He, Ngati Pukenga, Waitaha, Tapuika, Ngati Whakaue and Te Arawa Lake Trust the right to bury the bones of unknown deceased Maori in the ancestral burial ground situated within the boundaries of the place specified therein.
