Pursuant to section 105A of the Education Act 1989
("the Act"), I approve the following constitution for the Board of Trustees of Makoura College:
- The principal of the school;
- up to three trustees appointed by the Minister of Education;
- two parent representatives;
- a staff representative;
- a student representative; and
- up to two trustees either co-opted by the board or appointed by bodies corporate approved by the board
for the purpose.
The constitution will operate as if sections 96, 97, 99, 101, 102, 104 and 105 of the Act apply where relevant.
This notice takes effect the day of its publication, apart from bullet point 5, above, relating to the student representative which will take effect on 1 October 2011.

Explanatory Notes
These explanatory notes are not part of the notice, but it is intended to indicate its general effect:
- For the first elections for parent representatives and a staff representative, a returning officer will be appointed by the commissioner.
- The establishment of a student representative position has been delayed to take into account the regular cycle of student representative elections, which occur annually in September.
