Nga Purapura o te Aroha, Waipa District, Te Awamutu, Establishment

Pursuant to sections 146 and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice:
N o t i c e
1. This notice may be cited as Nga Purapura o te Aroha, Establishment.
2. I hereby establish in the Waipa District of the Waikato Region, a Year 1-13 composite school called Nga Purapura o te Aroha and designate the school as a special character school.
3. The school will operate in accordance with the seven essential areas of the New Zealand Curriculum.
4. The special characteristics of Nga Purapura o te Aroha are:
- to empower each child's potential - socially, academically, spiritually, so each may achieve in
this modern world;
- to focus on te reo me ona tikanga with special emphasis being on the local tikanga (Tainui), providing full immersion learning for mainly Maori students;
- the curriculum will reflect the local kawa (protocols) and history of the Tainui waka;
- the whanau will undertake to educate their tamariki through te reo Maori total immersion as a medium
of instruction with an emphasis on Tainui kawa and tikanga;
- to develop strong future direction for the kura through an informed and involved parent body;
- to ensure that all students have access to programmes that enable them to experience success to the best
of their ability;
- to develop independent life-long learners who see problems as challenges, are willing to take risks and are able to set their own goals;
- to provide a foundation through a balanced curriculum with particular emphasis on literacy, numeracy and the essential life skills.
5. Nga Purapura o te Aroha will have a maximum roll
of 120. It will enrol students in the following year levels:

Explanatory Note
This notice will become effective from 1 July 2011.
