Pursuant to section 66 of the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002, I, John McGregor Carter, declare that a state of national emergency exists in Christchurch City, owing to the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that occurred on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 12.51pm in Christchurch City, and subsequent significant aftershocks.
The state of national emergency comes into force immediately on the making of this declaration.
The state of national emergency expires with the commencement of the seventh day after the date on
which this declaration is made.
