Notice of the Final Determinations of the Minister for Land Information on Official Geographic Names

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Nga Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 ("the Act"), notice was given in the New Zealand Gazette, 5 November 2009, No. 161, page 3891, of proposals by the New Zealand Geographic Board Nga Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa ("the Board"), to assign new or alter existing, geographic names.
Submissions received on those geographic name proposals were dealt with by the Board according to section 18 of the Act.
I hereby declare my final determinations, made pursuant to sections 20(2) and 20(3) of the Act, on 28 November 2010, are that these names are now official geographic names and are specified in the first column of the Schedule below ("the Schedule").
The geographic feature type that each name relates to is set out in the second column of the Schedule.
The description for each name is set out in the third column of the Schedule.
My final determinations on these names shall take effect on 16 December 2010.

North Auckland Land District
Stonefields Suburb Located at the site of an old quarry and an ancient Polynesian garden. Situated between the suburbs of St Johns, Tamaki, Panmure, Mt Wellington, and Ellerslie, in Auckland. Bounded generally by Lunn Avenue at the south-west, Ngahue Drive at the north-west, College Road at the north-east, and Mount Wellington Domain at the south-east. NZTopo50 map BA32-Auckland, GR 640 160. New name for a new suburb. The official geographic name is now "Stonefields".
Hawke’s Bay Land District
Rangaiika Locality Approximately 2km south-west of Cape Kidnappers. NZTopo50 map BK40ptBK39-Cape Kidnappers, GR 499 016. Spelling alteration from Rangaiika (macron added) and replaces previous New Zealand Gazette, 14 May 2009, No. 66, page 1498. The official geographic name is now "Rangaiika".
Canterbury Land District
Poutakoro Head Headland A small distinctive headland, facing south-east, along the eastern-most coastline of Banks Peninsula, north of Hickory Bay. NZTopo50 map BY25-Akaroa, GR 103 529. Spelling alteration from Putakolo Head (recorded name).
Otago Land District
Hawea Flat Locality Small settlement located 5km south of Lake Hawea. NZTopo50 map CA13-Lake Hawea, GR 057 490. Spelling alteration from Hawea Flat (macron added to a recorded name). The official geographic name is now "Hawea Flat".
Hawea River River South flowing for 10km from Lake Hawea into Clutha River / Mata-Au. NZTopo50 maps CA13-Lake Hawea, source: GR 025 535; CB13-Tarras; and CB12-Cardrona, confluence: GR 984 455. Spelling alteration from Hawea River (macron added to a recorded name). The official geographic name is now "Hawea River".
Lake Hawea Lake Large lake east of Lake Wanaka, extending north-south for approximately 38km, fed principally by the Hunter River at the north, and draining into the Hawea
River at the south. NZTopo50 maps BZ13-Haast Pass / Tioripatea, GR 150 860; CA12-Minaret Bay, GR 989 717; and CA13-Lake Hawea, GR 044 662. Spelling alteration from Lake Hawea (macron added to a recorded name). The official geographic name is now "Lake Hawea".
Lake Hawea Locality Small settlement located on the southern shoreline of Lake Hawea. NZTopo50 map CA13-Lake Hawea, GR 036 535. Spelling alteration from Lake Hawea (macron added to an official name) and replaces previous New Zealand Gazette, 2 June 1988, No. 93, page 2239. The official geographic name is now "Lake Hawea".
Southland Land District
Hawea Island Island One of two islands, commonly known as the "Outer Gilbert Islands", south of Breaksea Island at the entrance to Breaksea Sound, Fiordland. NZTopo50 map CE04-Anchor Island, GR 042 317. Spelling alteration from Hawea Island (macron added to an official name) and replaces previous New Zealand Gazette,
24 September 1987, No. 163, page 4458. The official geographic name is now "Hawea Island".
Mount Pickering Mountain Prominent mountain, at height 1650m, located in the Kepler Mountains 20km west of Te Anau. NZTopo50 map CD07-Manapouri, GR 642 635. New name for a feature not named. The official geographic name is now "Mount Pickering".
Mount Tinsley Mountain Prominent mountain, at height 1537m, located in the Kepler Mountains 15km west of Te Anau. NZTopo50 map CD07-Manapouri, GR 703 598. New name for a feature not named. The official geographic name is now "Mount Tinsley".
