Code of Employment Practice on Infant Feeding

Notice is hereby given that the Minister of Labour has approved the Code of Employment Practice on Infant Feeding for launch to the public.
The Minister of Labour is required by the Employment Relations Act 2000 ("the Act") to approve a Code of Employment Practice as soon as practicable after 1 April 2009.
The purpose of the code is to provide employers with guidance on how to fulfil their obligations concerning the provision of breastfeeding breaks and facilities under section 69Y of the Act.
The code includes suggestions about the types of issues that should be considered when negotiating an arrangement
with an employee who wishes to breastfeed during working hours and also provides guidance on determining what arrangement would be reasonable and practicable in the circumstances.
From 22 March 2010 the code and supporting information and resources can be found on the Department of Labour website at
http://www.ers.govt.nz/parentalleave/infantfeeding/code/
Dated this 16th day of February 2010.
HON KATE WILKINSON, Minister of Labour.
