Intention to Review the Approved Code of Practice for Demolition (1994)

Notice that the Secretary of Labour has asked the Minister of Labour to review the code of practice pursuant to section 20(1)(a) of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
The current code sets out a statement of preferred work practices or arrangements for the health and safety practices for demolition.
There is an industry working party that is writing a Best Practice Guideline and the outcome of the review of
this current code is likely to be to revoke it once the
Best Practice Guideline is published.
We are seeking input and feedback on the current code to be incorporated into the draft Best Practice Guideline.
The current code is available on the Department of Labour’s website
www.dol.govt.nz
It is intended that the reviewed code would apply to the demolition industry with other key stakeholders including the construction and transport sectors.
Interested parties are invited to comment on the proposed Code.
Written submissions in relation to the approval of this code can be made by mail to Demolition Approved Code of Practice Submissions, Technical Services, Department
of Labour, PO Box 3705, Wellington, or email standards@dol.govt.nz with the subject line Demolition Approved Code of Practice Submissions.
Submissions close on Friday 9 April 2010.
Dated at Wellington this 18th day of February 2010.
CHRISTOPHER BLAKE, Secretary of Labour, Department of Labour.
