Notification of Ordinary Rule

Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Operator Licensing Amendment (No 2) 2010 (Rule 81001/4) ("the Rule").
The objective of this Rule is to amend Land Transport
Rule: Operator Licensing 2007 (Rule 81001) to implement measures for improving the safety of drivers when operating their vehicles in a taxi service.
The measures will also afford greater protection to taxi passengers.
The Rule requires that approved taxi organisations
(ATOs) install a security camera system approved by the
NZ Transport Agency in each of their taxis operating in major cities and towns.
In major cities and towns, all taxis must have a monitored 24-hour, seven-days-a-week telecommunications system from a fixed location, and ATOs must ensure that their drivers are provided with an emergency alert and response system.
Land Transport Rule: Operator Licensing Amendment (No 2) 2010 comes into force on 1 February 2011.
It is available from January 2011 for inspection free of charge at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, Victoria Arcade, 44 Victoria Street, Wellington, and at the NZ Transport Agency’s regional offices.
A bound copy can be purchased from bookshops that sell legislation or from Wickliffe Limited, PO Box 932, Dunedin or telephone (06) 358 8231.
