Land Transport Rules

In accordance with section 161(2) of the Land Transport Act 1998, the NZ Transport Agency, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, gives notice of the Minister’s intention to make
a Rule that amends the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999 (Rule 91001) (the "Rule"), and advises that the draft Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Rule [2011] (Rule 91001/7) is available for public comment.
The proposed amendment Rule will promote road safety
and give effect to key initiatives outlined in Safer Journeys - New Zealand’s Road Safety Strategy 2010-2020. The amendment Rule proposes changes to the licensing and testing processes to improve the safety of young drivers
and of riders of motorcycles and mopeds. Other proposed changes will improve the integrity of the driver licensing system and make business processes clearer and easier.

The draft amendment Rule is also available for viewing at the NZ Transport Agency’s regional offices.
Groups and individuals who have registered an interest in the Rule have been advised of the availability of the draft amendment Rule.
Submissions close on 20 December 2010.
