Pursuant to section 161(3) of the Land Transport Act 1998, notification is given of the making of Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Amendment 2010
(Rule 41001/5).
This Rule makes changes to the vehicle dimension and mass limits set out in Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2002 (Rule 41001), and allows for the granting of permits for "high-productivity motor vehicles" to operate on approved routes at greater dimension and mass limits than otherwise allowed.
The objective of the Rule is to improve the productivity of the heavy vehicle fleet so that freight can be moved more efficiently and, where possible, enable a given amount of freight to be carried on fewer vehicles, without reducing the safety of road users.
Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass Amendment 2010 comes into force on 1 May 2010.
It is available for inspection free of charge at the National Office of the NZ Transport Agency, PSIS House, 20 Ballance Street, Wellington, and at the NZ Transport Agency's regional offices.
