Pursuant to section 224 of the Climate Change Response Act 2002, the Minister Responsible for Climate Change Issues hereby gives the following notice.
N o t i c e
1. Title and commencement-(1) This notice may be cited as the Climate Change Response (Targets) Notice 2008.
(2) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
2. Targets-The government has adopted the following targets:
(a) By 2025, 90 per cent of our electricity generation will be from renewable sources (based on an average hydrological year);
(b) by 2040, our per capita transport greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by half of those in 2007;
(c) by 2020, we will achieve a net increase in forest area of 250,000 hectares above that in 2007;
(d) by 2013, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector compared to business as usual by 300,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent;
(e) to promulgate a National Policy Statement (NPS) on biodiversity by 1 February 2011;
(f) by 2015, the average emissions performance of light vehicles entering the fleet will be 170g/km of CO2; and
(g) by 2025, we will utilise up to 9.5 PJ per year of energy from woody biomass or direct use geothermal additional to that used in 2005.
