Pursuant to section 105A of the Education Act 1989,
I hereby approve the following constitution for the board of trustees of Aurora College:
? The principal;
? up to three ministerial appointees;
? up to five parent elected trustees;
? one staff elected trustee;
? one student elected trustee; and
? board co-opted trustees, provided that the number of parent elected trustees is greater than the total number
of co-opted and appointed trustees.
The appointment or co-option of a trustee may be for a term not exceeding three years.
The parent elected trustees will be elected in accordance with sections 96(2) and 101 of the Education Act 1989
(“the Act”) and the Education (School Trustees Election) Regulations 2000 (“Election Regulations”).
The staff elected trustee and student elected trustee will be elected in accordance with sections 97(1) and (2) and 101 of the Act and the Election Regulations.
In addition, all relevant provisions under Part 9 of the Act will apply to the parent, staff and student elected trustees.
For the first elections for parent elected trustees, a staff elected trustee and a student elected trustee, a returning officer will be appointed by the establishment board of trustees and will carry out the duties in accordance with the Election Regulations.
For any subsequent elections for parent elected trustees,
a staff or student elected trustee, a returning officer will be appointed by the board and will carry out the duties in accordance with the Election Regulations.
Casual vacancies for elected trustees which arise in accordance with section 104 of the Act will be filled
in accordance with section 105 of the Act.
Trustees elected and appointed to the first board established under section 105A of the Act will take office on
21 November 2008.
Under section 101(7) of the Act, I approve Friday,
14 November 2008, as the closing date for voting in the first elections of parent elected trustees, a staff elected trustee and a student elected trustee for the board of trustees of Aurora College.
I also approve Wednesday, 26 November 2008, as the date for the first meeting of the board of trustees.
