Hapuku School (3369) – Designation as a Designated Character School

Pursuant to sections 146A and 156 of the Education Act 1989, I hereby give the following notice that Hapuku School will change from a mainstream school to become a designated character school from 28 January 2008.
The Designated Character of Hapuku School
1. Provision of an educational environment that promotes a bicultural educational vision and the goals, objectives and rangatiratanga of Nga Uri o Mangamaunu o Ngai Tahu.
2. Development of the next generation of caretakers of traditions and aspirations of Nga Uri o Mangamaunu.
3. Maintenance of cultural practices consistent with Ngai Tahutanga.
4. Enhancement of the wellbeing of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, their whanau, hapu and iwi.
5. Development within the tamariki of a consciousness of their connection to Te Taiao and their individual and collective responsibility to ensuring that this connection remains intact.
6. Teaching and learning is based on the matauranga and tikanga of Nga Uri o Mangamaunu o Ngai Tahu.
