Notice of Reassessment of a Registered Trade Name Product (Notice No. 34)

Pursuant to section 14(1) of the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997, the Director-General
of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) hereby gives notice that a decision has been made under section 29(1) of the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 to reassess the following registered trade name product:
Trade Name: Keystrepto
Reference: P001369
Active Ingredient and Concentration:
Streptomycin 170g/kg
Formulation Type: Wettable powder
General Use Claim:
Control bacterial diseases of pipfruit, stonefruit and seedling tomatoes.
Reason for Assessment:
An expert panel was established to examine the impact of using antibiotics in animals and horticulture on the development of antibiotic resistance in human pathogens. Based on the advice in the expert report, NZFSA indicated that it would reassess the controls on the relevant plants compounds, taking into consideration the stated recommendations. Currently Keystrepto is the only streptomycin product used in horticulture.
