Pursuant to sections 4 and 5 of the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978, The New Zealand King Salmon Company Limited has applied to the Department of Conservation for a permit to “take” marine mammals at
its salmon farms in the Marlborough Sounds.
Specifically, the application is for a permit to use an underwater acoustic deterrent device to deter New Zealand fur seals and dolphins while predator exclusion nets are being maintained or replaced, or when the nets are open for cage transfers.

Any person wishing to make a submission on the application can do so in writing to the Conservator, Department of Conservation, Private Bag 5, Nelson, within 28 days after publication of this notice.
