Proposal to Make Regulations for Vehicle Fuel Economy Labelling

Pursuant to section 36 of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000, the Minister of Energy gives the following notice.
The Minister of Energy proposes to recommend to Cabinet to implement a vehicle fuel economy labelling scheme.
New Regulations will be developed to create this scheme.
A period of public consultation on the proposed Regulations is also notified and details are given below.
The proposed Regulations will require all vehicles under
3.5 tonnes (excluding motorcycles) to display a fuel economy label at the point of sale (where fuel economy information is available).
The proposed Regulations will increase the availability of fuel economy information to consumers at the time of sale and lead to improved fuel economy of the light vehicle fleet.
